The Background
Bolivia is situated in the central portion of South America, and shares borders with Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay. The country lies just south of the equator and contains sections of the Andes mountain range, offering ideal coffee growing conditions. The majority of Bolivian coffee is grown on mountainside farms that have access to abundant rich soils, as well as a sufficiently high altitude. Although not nearly as well known as Peruvian or Brazilian coffee, Bolivian coffee has a respectable reputation. Larry's Coffee partners with a number of small farms throughout Bolivia to source these beans via shade grown, organic, and fair trade practices.
What makes Bolivian Coffee special?
If your preferences tend towards a lighter roast, this is a must try! These Bolivian beans are grown at altitudes between 1400-1600m. The well developed profile is complemented nicely by the roast. This Bolivian coffee is smooth, creamy and mellow. This profile balances a combination of chocolate and roasted almond notes with a bright, yet mellow citrus-toned acidity. A subtle caramel-toned sweetness ties the profile together. There is a lot going on in this cup, but it never overwhelms. If you're doing a South American coffee tour from the comfort of your home, don't sleep on Bolivian coffee!
