The Background

The Democratic Republic of the Congo sits right upon the equator. Because of this, a warm climate is present through out the year. This Congo coffee is grown in the Kivu region. The Kivu growing region resides on a high plateau, and is situated near the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. In spite of the close proximity, Congo coffee presents a very distinguished taste profile. The availability of coffee from Congo is unfortunately inconsistent, due to various conflicts. There does seem to be promise for the future, and coffee from Congo will hopefully be more readily available in the near future. As of right now, we are lucky to have Fresh Roasted Coffee's Congo Kivu coffee!

What makes Congo Kivu Coffee special?

Most coffee aficionados have probably tried a number of different African coffees. The likely suspects would be Kenyan, Ethiopian and Tanzanian. There are, however, a number of other coffee producing countries in Africa that fly under the radar. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is one of these countries. This coffee offers a truly distinguished flavor profile, you probably haven't tasted anything like it! There seems to be a divide when it comes to Congo Kivu coffee. It's not quite a love it or hate it scenario, but people that enjoy it, enjoy it immensely. Notes of cinnamon and chocolate are paired with a pleasant bitterness reminiscent of tart apple. The acidity is notable, and the finish is dry with hints of earth. Be intrigued, be very intrigued. Congo Kivu coffee is not for everyone, but if it happens to be for you, you'll love it!
