The Background
Italy has a long and rich coffee history. Although coffee is not grown in Italy, the country is well known for their coffee blending, roasting and espresso expertise! This coffee is a blend of beans from Brazil, Honduras and Uganda. The former two are of the Arabica species, while the Ugandan beans are Robusta. Lavazza has been around since 1895, so you'd better believe that they have their blends down to a science. This blend produces a perfect espresso coffee with all of the desired qualities of a good shot.
What makes Gran Espresso Blend special?
As the name would imply, this Gran Espresso coffee blend has been crafted with espresso in mind. The first thing you'll notice here is the intense, spicy aroma. If you're an espresso type of person, you'll be happy to know that shots prepared from this blend produce a consistent velvety, golden brown crema. A mild acidity and rich notes of chocolate and spice translate very well into a concentrated shot. The medium roast here allows flavors from both the roasting process and the bean origin to co-exist. Brewed as drip coffee or espresso, this one is always smooth and never bitter. If you have yet to experience Italy's coffee expertise, Lavazza is a great place to start!
