The Background
Back in the late 1800s / early 1900s, Puerto Rico was one of the top coffee exporters in the world. Due to financial sustainability issues, this is no longer the case. In fact, only about 1% of domestically produced coffee is exported outside of Puerto Rico. There are some companies, however, that are striving to recreate the Puerto Rican coffee brand on a global scale. One of such companies, is Café Oro de Puerto. Café Oro de Puerto owns all of their own farms and ensures a consistently high quality output. These beans are grown in the mountains of Lares, Puerto Rico, where they benefit from ideal coffee growing conditions. Café Oro translates to "Gold Coffee", and honestly, it's justified.
What makes Puerto Rican Cafe Oro Coffee special?
Café Oro coffee is strong enough to provide that kick that we so desperately need in the morning, but balanced enough that it remains smooth and never bitter. This one is easy to drink black, as it has a natural sweetness to it, with flavor notes of caramel and chocolate. Adding to the drink-ability, these beans sport a mild acidity and a mellow aftertaste. The aroma is also very worthy of mention, it's simply intoxicating! If you've never tried Puerto Rican coffee before, this is a great place to start.
