The Background
The Puerto Rican coffee industry has seen its share of ups and downs. In the late 1800s & early 1900s, Puerto Rico was one of the world's major exporters of coffee. Various issues, primarily financial in nature put an end to that, but the industry perseveres!
The Café Rico brand was founded back in 1924 by Ramón S. Torres Vélez. In 1935, Cafe Rico was acquired by the Coffee Growers Cooperative of Puerto Rico. Cafe Rico is now one of several brands that is produced by a large group called the Puerto Rico Coffee Roasters (PRCR). With a dedication to quality and efficiency, PRCR continues to move the Puerto Rican coffee industry in a positive direction.
What makes Puerto Rican Cafe Rico Coffee special?
You know that feeling when something triggers a fond memory and you can't help but stare longingly and smile? That's this coffee, reminding people of their trip to Puerto Rico. Cafe Rico coffee is deceptively strong, robust brew. What does that mean? Well, this coffee has a rich, strong taste and aroma, but it remains smooth from start to finish. Despite a darker roast profile, this coffee is never bitter. A caramel toned sweetness is notable while the acidity is minimal. A rich, sweet chocolate taste matches the powerful aroma. Obviously, not everyone has been to Puerto Rico... but everyone can enjoy Puerto Rican coffee nonetheless!
